Westport Announces

1st Annual Oktoberfest 4-day event!

September 28_October 1, 2017

 

Kansas City, MO – Pack your lederhosen and visit Kansas City’s largest German heritage celebration in the of heart Westport! With an incredible array of food, beer and unique attractions, Oktoberfest is an event not to be missed.  The event will be free to the public, though there will be a charge to access certain VIP areas.

Westport is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Kansas City and is known for its blend of tasty eateries, trendy boutiques, and popular nighttime hot spots. By day, Westport buzzes with residents and tourists but comes to life at night as the restaurants and bars fill up.

Westport also boasts many festivals and fun events throughout the year that have become Kansas City traditions including Art Westport, Westport Summer Beer Festival, Santa Dash, Westport Roots Festival and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Celebration which attracts nearly 100,000 attendees each year.

This year we bring a new tradition, celebrating all things German and more -Oktoberfest. This event will be a “must attend” for not only Kansas Citians, but fun-lovers across the Midwest.

At 5.15pm at Char Bar, the tapping of the first official Keg and Ceremonial Stein Exchange with KCMO Mayor Pro Tem Scott Wagner, German Consul Rolf Snyder (of KC-based German Consulate) and Hays, KS Vice Mayor James Meier.

Tasting of the Ten beer sampling event with participating bars and restaurants as well as Stein Hoisting Contests beginning at 6 pm.

 

Friday, September 29, 2017

Festival activities launch on Friday at 5 pm on Pennsylvania Avenue with the opening of the BierHaus VIP tent, which will carry many Oktoberfest specialty beers and have a variety of entertainment.

The first of two stages will also debut on Friday with German music entertainment from 5pm-10pm.

 

Saturday, September 30, 2017

The cornerstone of the entire festival, Saturday will be action-packed from 10 am to 11 pm, with German-style food, a wide variety of beer tasting options, more stein hoisting, live music, German dance lessons, vendors, wiener dog races, marionette theater and more. Westport encourages families to visit the festival anytime during the day for a friendly and fun experience.

 

Sunday, October 1, 2017

The festival wraps up with a 5k run – The Lederhosen Lap – at 9 am in the morning, with various restaurants featuring unique “German or Bavarian” menu items during brunch.
