38th Annual Art Westport
This September, you’re invited to join 150 of Kansas City area’s top artists who’ll line the streets of Westport — the perfect backdrop for this lively three-day event — showcasing original art, one-of-a-kind jewelry, fine crafts and more. Now in its 38th year, Art Westport is Kansas City’s only outdoor art show and festival exclusively for LOCAL artists.

Official Jurors
Our jurors this year are all distinguished members of the art community in Kansas City. It is their duty to ensure the continuing quality of Art Westport.
Linda Lighton
Linda is an artist whose work is in many international museums in China, Hungary, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, and the U.S. Lighton received the Artist for the State of Missouri in 2009 and the Award for Excellence in Visual Art and Education from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2011.
Linda also received a Proclamation from Kansas City by Mayor Sylvester James in December 2012 in recognition of 10 years of administering the Lighton International Artist Exchange Program. In 2016, Lighton received an Outstanding Achievement Award from the National Council for the Education of the Ceramic Arts. Linda was honored to receive the Outstanding Alumni Award from Pembroke Hill School in 2016.
Brett Knape
Dr. Brett Knappe was born and raised in the greater Seattle area. He obtained a B.A. in history from Boston University and a B.A. in art history from the University of Washington before he arrived at the University of Kansas in 1998. He received both his Master’s Degree and Ph.D. from KU. In 2007, he was hired by Baker University. In the years that followed he was promoted to associate professor of art history and received tenure. He also served as curator of the Baker University Art Collection. In February 2016, he became the executive director of the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Johanna Perry
Johanna Perry is a researcher and a fine art appraisal assistant for Madison Group Fine Art Appraisals and their sister company Rachael Cozad Fine Art in Kansas City, Missouri, where she has worked since 2012. She came to Madison Group/Rachael Cozad Fine Art as a graduate student at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where her focus was modern and contemporary art, studying primarily 20th century European and Asian propaganda posters and socialist realism. She graduated from UMKC in 2013 with her M.A. in art history where she was awarded a two-year graduate teaching assistantship. She received her B.A. in 2006 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Hixon-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, where she majored in Art History and Criticism and minored in German.
Marcus Cain
Marcus Cain is an artist, independent curator, writer and director of alumni relations & development at the Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI). Former positions include executive director & curator of the Epsten Gallery (formerly the Kansas City Jewish Museum of Contemporary Art), owner/director of Hutch Mercantile and Satellite Exhibitions, editor-in-chief of Review: Visual Art Culture magazine, lecturer in painting and drawing in the painting department of KCAI, coordinator of the Corporate Partnership Exhibition Program at KCAI, and assistant gallery director for Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art. As an artist, Cain is the recipient of a 2012 Charlotte Street Foundation Visual Artist Award, he exhibits both locally and nationally.
Sherry Leedy
Sherry Leedy established Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art in 1985. As the first and longest running contemporary art gallery in the Crossroads Arts District, Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art was instrumental in the creation and revitalization of the Crossroads Arts District in Kansas City. The Kansas City Historical Society acknowledged Leedy in 2001 as a recipient of their Preservation Award and Leedy received the Urban Hero Award from the Downtown Council of Kansas City in 2007.
Sherry Leedy holds a M.F.A. degree from the University of Kansas and a B.F.A. from KCAI. She continues her commitment to her own art at her studio in Kansas City. Leedy’s work is in the permanent collections of museums and galleries both locally and nationally.

Like Westport itself, Art Westport has a unique vibe all its own. We’re proud to feature 100 percent local artists, specifically from the Kansas City metro area. (Artists wishing to apply must live within an 80-mile radius of the downtown Kansas City, Mo., post office.)
Don’t have experience exhibiting or selling artwork in commercial/community art shows? Apply to Art Westport’s Emerging Artist Program! Upon acceptance, emerging artists receive mentoring resources and a 50 percent discount on a quad space.
